Insta Bread and Insta Fish

Good morning. Good morning. Welcome. My name is mike, it’s an honor to be a few this morning. I’m one of the pastors here. If you join us in person for the first time, welcome. If your name is Annie, you’re homesick. Welcome. Thank you for joining us on the livestream. It’s an honor to be a few this morning. Let’s pray. Let’s jump right in. We have a lot to cover and I’m gonna want to spend my time on the content. So let’s pray by your heads with me. Let’s focus our attention on the word of God and God speaking to our hearts. Thank you Lord for this passage. We’re looking at thank you that the scripture of God, the bible is a, it’s a big boy. He can take care of itself. I pray that the bible would just really uh speak to our hearts. Got every area of our heart that needs instruction correction, encouragement, exhortation. I pray that the word of God would speak to the people of God. I said we’d just be sensitive to the spirit of gods and convicting us of areas instructing us, encouraging us. I just, I just want to yield to you as you communicate to this church through me. We would listen as we should and help me to speak as I should. Give us a holy boldness and obedience and holy boldness and a bang as we listen to the word of God today in jesus name, we pray this. Amen. We’re in section seven and eight in that workbook, chapter nine of the Gospel of luke and paige 505 in the house bible. If you’ll turn with me to luke. Chapter nine verse one we’re going to continue reading is starting there in verse one says something. The 12 jesus gave power and authority over all the demons to heal disease And then verse two, then he sent them out to proclaim the Kingdom of God and to heal the sick. So what’s this, what’s this all about? What are we looking at today? This is a turning point in jesus ministry and your three when it shifts and transitions from jesus modeling and doing everything to his disciples. Starting to dabble in the ministry, jesus been showing the way now he’s unleashing his disciples out to do the work, this is the commissioning of his 12 disciples, this foreshadows the great commissioning in Matthew 28 that you said go therefore and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the father, the son and the holy spirit and teaching them them to do everything I have commanded you And though I will be with you always even to the end of the age, the very last words that he used to all of his followers is the Matthew 28 but this is a micro commissioning a regional commissioning versus a global commissioning the job description, you all have job descriptions, I have a job description, I have task and teams, I’m required to lead in my job, you have task in teams, you’re required to lead in your job, you have a job description, you have a territory, you have responsibility. The disciples were given a regional mandate. Later in the Matthew 20 will be given a global mandate to be commissioned globally. He talks about power and authority here. Power is an inherent ability. Authority is the right to exercise it. Power is an inherited ability that they inherited from jesus and authority is the right to exercise it. So disciples are given a mandate to tee it off against disease and demons to heal disease and cast out demons powered authority over disease and demons. Why why does disciples need power and authority of the disease and demons? It’s because they’re given a platform to proclaim the kingdom of God the gospel, the gospel, the kingdom of God is the greatest work that they’re engaging in the king event preaching the kingdom of God. They’re given power and authority. They’re given a mandate to proclaim the kingdom of God. They’re given power and authority over disease and demons to make that happen. I uh turned to one of my sons this last week, I was taking his mom to the hospital and I just the doctor checkup thing and the son, I had a contractor at working at the house that day fixing something at the roof or something and he had a task, he had to do and I turned to him and I said son, this is facetime, that’s how you call me. If you have any problems you call me, hit this button that calls dad, don’t let anyone in unless the person I told you let in call me if any problems there’s a neighbor two houses up the street, but you can just see like a mandate was given to this young man to king of the castle in charge of everything but buck stopped here. He was in charge of his entire little mandate, his little world, there was a lot of authority and power given to that young man to manage that house. The disciples were given a spiritual bomb that would destroy evil and disease to destroy demonic work in the lives of the community and heal disease that was wrecking communities, disciples were given the case of the kingdom, they’re given a mandate to fight back against darkness and evil and to heal disease and sickness and they were given opportunity to platform the gospel of the Kingdom of God because of the work of God. Think of your community group was led by jesus and she has spent two years equipping and training and modeling for you ministry at the end of that two year window, he’s like, hey guys, guess what disease and demons you’re unleashed into the city, we’ll come back and rally later and you’re unleashed you and your community group to go out and heal the sick and cast out demons and proclaim the kingdom of God, that is a heavy weighty thing. Think of some people in your community, close your eyes, close your eyes, think of your community group, you’re like, you know, I know who would run straight for brian west and I know who would go to the psych ward and I know who’s going to run up and down the downtown area of ST finding people, I mean, you know exactly what you’re gonna do, the people in the community again, it would be a wild fun little period of time where you can be exercising power and authority over disease and demons. It’s a wild week. Amen, Open your eyes, look at verse three, take nothing for the road is what Jesus continues to explain what to expect, sets their expectations and speaking to areas he knows they’re gonna be up against and verse three says take nothing for the road, he told them, no staff, no traveling bag, no bread, no money, and don’t even take an extra shirt and he tells his disciples not to beg like other religious leaders would do in that day and age, they would beg for for substance for their, for their career, their income, this was common in that day. His disciples were to live differently than the other religious leaders of the day. They were to live off of the goodwill. The generosity of those who have been impacted by the ministry and ultimately rely and trust on God himself, jesus telling them, I do you watch now you do after he modeled for them, what it meant to be a disciple and live off of the provision of God and the people of God for the work of God and this lifestyle, this, that just model for his disciples, the early apostles is continued on even later in the book of Acts, you can see this with the apostles in Acts three, there’s this apparently there’s this man who was paralyzed, he was talking to them for gold and silver and he said to them, I have one of the disciples later in Acts three, he says I have no silver or gold, but what I do have I give to you and the name of jesus christ of Nazareth rise up and walk, they carry this lifestyle that was modeled for them of how to live, of living off the generosity of the people of God to carry on the work of God. There was this great commissioning of these disciples and that, that commissioning the disciples to take the gospel to unreached, unengaged people groups, continues to this day, we had Solar Church have the opportunity to partner with an international mission board and we’ve been doing that this last year and it’s been a blessing you really can appreciate people when all said and done it boils down to money and man hours and I appreciate the international mission board, significant amount of finances and people they’ve been sending globally and so we have these really short videos. We’re gonna start showing probably one a month just kind of educate you and inform you on what we’re doing and how we’re deploying our dollars as a church to getting the gospel proclaimed in two different regions of this world. But this first video is a tear jerker and I’ve watched it several times. I get choked up most times that I watch it. So we’re gonna start for four minute video that luke’s gonna roll for us here now. But this is one of the partnerships we have as a church. Mm hmm. Mhm. For 175 years, God has given life to this organization. He has called us to go. Thousands have answered that call and southern Baptists have joined together to send them from every walk of life from every part of our country. They boarded ships and planes leaving behind all that was comfortable, predictable, safe and secure, all to go and share the good news of jesus christ into deserts and jungles across mountains and seas. They planted their lives preaching christ crucified. Many completed their service and came back to their homeland, but some did not. Some would perish on the field. They would starve become ill or be struck down on distant and dangerous roads to present the gospel and some would be struck down for simply preaching the good news of christ in moments of extreme violence. many would choose to stay in danger to bring peace to those in the midst of chaos. Those are dark days for all of us when we lose our brothers and sisters, when we feel the very real sting of death on those days, we all ask is it worth it? Is it worth the high price? The ultimate price etched on the hearts of missionaries throughout time are words like these. My life is of no value. My aim is to finish the race to live is christ and to die is gain. So we take up our cross to be living sacrifices. Greater love has no one than this to lay down one’s life for one’s friends, these lives were not lost, these lives were given. We may never know the full impact these missionaries have given on this side of eternity. But some stories, we do know stories of God pouring out his spirit on tribes and nations because missionaries modeled the one true sacrifice generations forever altered life is a gift. How will you use the life you’ve been given, the disciples gave their life, they gave it ultimately as martyrs around this globe to take the Gospel to the unreached and engage people groups. That little test drive, that regional commissioning that jesus sent them out to cast out disease and demons from the presence of the people of God as the work of God is being proclaimed to expand the work of God. There’s a deer moment in our brothers lives and it’s a deer moment that’s continued today, it is a privilege. We have a history as a church of having short term and long term missionaries that have been coming out of this work for decades and it’s been a privilege to build a partner of these. I am be men, they’ve been very strong partners for us in the past We’re setting up seminary tracks for international students with connecting internationals back to home countries that have churches in their same city that believe, it we believe our theological theological statement of faith, but it’s also a privilege to partner of that as we grow up as the church supporting the work of reaching the 10, 40, window reaching unengaged people who do not know about christ advancing the cause of christ as our honored to partner with them. They’ll resource equipped train manage missionaries around the globe. I love, I love those imb videos, I’m a sucker for them, I’ll watch a whole bunch of them. They’re not all that long, but they all have the same message of people matter the mission matters, the disciples were sent out in commission to proclaim the gospel of God and that work continues today and then jesus picks up in verse four, he continues to explain to them a very key thing here. There’s a subtle slippery slope that occurs in Christianity and jesus warning them about a dangerous cliff that is out there in ministry verse four, it says this whatever house you enter, stay there and leave from there Stanley from that house, you and I will read over this and miss the meaning of this. But there would be religious workers, religious clergy that would go into cities that shop around for an influential, wealthy, prominent, highly thought of person in that city in that region, they’d stay if the wealthy that’s ds influential, she said not so if you, you wherever you enter that house, you stay there and leave from there, this is a soapbox, but this is this, someone needs to hear this in our church, people need to hear this and this is very prominent in Christianity today. We don’t go shopping for friendship with wealthy, influential, significant people at church. It’s not a way to expand your network, is not a place to expand your portfolio. We don’t go friend shopping at church, we don’t ask so and so to disciple me because he’s cool or she’s influential, I want to be on her instagram story, I want to be seen in that cool person community group that is anti christian anti kingdom, thank you. Do you understand that whatever house you enter stay there and leave him there. Obviously this is prominent in our american Christianity today, that’s the cool church, that’s the hip church, that’s the with at church that is such an anti kingdom thing the least. And the losses who jesus went to. We are, we are not the beautiful person. Church with a broken person. Church. We don’t want to pretend and act like the world does in this area. We’re here for the least. And the lost. That’s about christ what came for man. Pleasers have never done anything for the kingdom of God. People pleasers have never done anything anything for the kingdom of God. Christian influencers have never done anything of lasting worth for the kingdom of God Galatians. One says this paul talking, he says, am I trying to win the approval of men or am I or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of christ think of jesus ministry. He was known for spending time with sinners. He was known for accepting gifts and receiving a forgiving heart. Let’s he was known for dining with corrupt political common in his day. He ate with the people the religious people rejected. He was known as a friend of sinners. A friend of gluttons, a friend of drunkards, We’re not playing games with the king of a man tools. We’re not playing the fame game. The vanity game. The kingdom of Vanity of the kingdom of fame is from the kingdom of man. We are to be different people from the kingdom of God and kingdom living has kingdom ethics and kingdom standards that you live the least. The lost. The humble and below is what you see in the early church is what you see in the Book of Acts is what you see in the letters that we read about. It’s what we need to see today. We’re here for the unlovely, we’re here for the least and the Lost the Gospel of luke talks about this upside down kingdom that takes the values of man and the values of the Kingdom of God. It flips them upside down, jesus, did ministry different and we should carry that on today. Our ministry should look different than everyone else’s ministry in this church and then the christian ecosystem. Our ministry should look different. Look at verse five of me. If they do not welcome you then leave that town, shake off the dust from your feet as a testimony against them Verse six. So they went out and travel from village to village, proclaiming the good news and healing everywhere church work. When it’s done correctly, it flips, it flips families upside down, It flips neighborhoods upside down, it flips cities upside down, It flips regions upside down and ultimately it flips the world upside down church work. When the gospel penetrates a people group, it completely saturates it and it disrupts relationships. It disrupts social constructs. It disrupts the status quo in that city with those people. What if our church was so effective at communicating the gospel of the Kingdom of God that the mayor took notice and she’d call up your pastors and come and visit the church and see what the heck’s going out of this church. Reaching this part of the city with the needs of this part of the city? What are the christians in this part of the city? Met needs in this part of the city, We need to run off to the suburbs and blow it on sunday morning and blow it on the weekend. Men and women. What if we met the needs of what are tangible, real needs in this area? What would the Kingdom of God look like if we were meeting more than just our needs as a church? What would it look like college ministry if the president of you and L noticed the work you’re doing in the lives of students on campus so much that they came to your Tuesday night service and asked and figured out what is going on here. I need all the other christian groups to do what this group is doing. Christian ministry went, done well, it flips things, it disrupts the way the norm, the status quo. It is disruptive ministry. This is an amazing story, reading amount of God honoring story of people’s the disciples, faith and obedience as they stepped out in faith and perfect obedience to jesus christ look at verse seven Herod the tattoo eric heard about everything that’s a governor ruler at that day, heard about everything that was going on, He was perplexed because some said that john john the baptist had been raised from the dead, some that Elijah had appeared and others that one of the ancient prophets had risen, I beheaded Herod, I beheaded john Herod said, but who is this? I hear such things about and he wanted to see him, John the baptist was beheaded, he was used, his cousin john and his Jesus and his disciples were emotionally spent. They were drained and the people thought that Jesus resurrected, john the baptist, Elijah or Isaiah, Jeremiah or Ezekiel. But it wasn’t any of these old testament mega profits. It was the 12 disciples who had spent time with jesus. Did the disciples returned to jesus because they heard that john baptist was beheaded and Herod wanted to talk to them and they were, they were, they were scared, they wanted to recalibrate. They wanted to maybe let things calm down. Were they exhausted and spent. Obviously they created quite the stir in that city. These little mini jesus preaching and healing and casting out demons in the name of jesus in the kingdom of God. Obviously they needed R and R. And there’s also maybe a precautionary, let things settle down with john the baptist is recent beheading. Yes and yes, I said, look at verse 10 when the Apostles returned to Jesus. They reported to Jesus, all that they had done. He took them along and withdrew privately to a town called Masada. They are both thrilled and exhausted, I don’t have a pastor friend of mine who said 40 hours as part time ministry for christian employers, folks in my church work more than 40 hours. I’d better work as much as them. Uh, ministry is exhausting, especially evangelistic gospel proclaiming ministry. There’s a couple of weeks in my life where I’ve spent 40, some hours a week of my life doing nothing but evangelism in small groups, large groups sharing the gospel over and over again, preaching a sermon, sharing the gospel and over and over again. Those are incredibly deeply exhausting periods of my life. I was not healing anyone and I was not casting any demons on top of that. There’s no like you get what I’m saying. It was one of those three things that I was engagement on mission trips and different chapters of my life during fall launch was just very aggressive, intense chapters of my, our ministry calendar. But imagine the emotional roller coaster of a union possessed person being cast out or a chronically ill sickness in the city being cast out being healed just deeply emotionally spent an exhausting time. We read in verse 11, They get away, they go to bass Eva, they get on the boat. They go across the lake to Bessonova, verse 11 when the crowds found out they followed, Jesus and he welcomed them. He spoke to them about the kingdom of God and healed those who needed healing Late in the day. The 12 the 12 approached and said to him, send the crowds away so they can go into the surrounding villages and countryside to find food and lodging because we are in a deserted place here send the crowds away. So envision you’re exhausted. You heard amazing. You’ve seen amazing things happen as a disciple. You heard horrific, horrifying things about john the baptist being beheaded in the person that killed them, wants to meet you and you’re doing amazing work casting out demons and healing people. You retreat back to jesus, you’re exhausted, You’re spent, jesus. Let’s get away, You get in a boat, you’re traveling across the boat and the boat is landing on the shores and far from the shore’s. You hear the commotion that a large crowd has, We read on here that about 5000 men is what records scholars project 10-15,000 people knew he was going there and camped out waiting for Jesus to arise To write because they don’t count women in this narrative and they don’t count minors and Children and slaves. 10 to 15,000 people are waiting for Jews to Iraq. It’s like here we go again. Obviously the romans, the patriarchs are gonna hear about this commotion out here in Barcelona, we see a scholar writes about john john Henry Jowett writes this ministry that costs nothing accomplishes nothing ministry that costs nothing accomplishes nothing. Jesus modeling again for his disciples and he’s modeling for us, the disciples new york 2020 ministry that costs nothing accomplishes nothing, Mark 10 45 says this for the son of man did not come to be served, but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many, Jesus poured himself out entirely during his alive years and during his dying moments of his life, he poured it out, he left it all on the field, he poured everything out on the ministry altar to see people saved john’s gospel account says that Jesus preached and he preached and he preached and as the night went on and lunch went by and dinner came and was the dinner hours closing, john mentioned how he preached about the true bread that gives life satisfying life, jesus playing off the crowds environment, the reality that everyone is hungry and he’s preaching about lasting satisfying satis satis fication Verse 13, they come to him and say let’s feed him, he says that the disciples, you give them something to eat, he told them We have no more than five loaves and two fish, they said unless we go and buy food for all these people for about 5000 men were there and he told his disciples have them sit down within groups of 50 each. 5000 adult males, probably 10 to 15,000 people pinnacle bank arena crowd, Sit down, that’s 2-300 groups of 50, sitting on the floor just for crowd control, people sitting down. Some people probably thought they were getting organized in a military platoons and you know if your instagram at that day and you’re on the basilica, you’re like geo tagged hashtag to save a, hashtag take this room, hashtag occupy or this room, hashtag getting organized, hashtag, jesus army click, you know, that would have been what you wanna sign, what’s going on with this table is what you’ve been thinking as a person in the year that was occurring. I don’t, I don’t know the biggest crew of people, I was responsible to get Fed was probably my wedding day. We had 350 people at our wedding. I found our wedding videos 13 years later, uh, at our house and we watched it this last week, it was October four was our anniversary. So we watched our wedding videos and uh 300 people ate and I mean Shane was there, Hannah was there of all was there, my wife was there um, and a bunch of you jerks, you all found the fountain of youth and left me behind is what I have made observation washing as you all look the same and I got told what happened, 300 folks, eight, it’s like a lot of time and money and planning of other people to make that happen, feeding 1,515,000 people, there’s no light task. That’s crazy, instantly feeling people with no planning, jesus gives his disciples a command, sit down. Um but he gives him a command to saying you feed them, that that standard is too high and that cost them too much. They can’t do that, they can’t do that. There’s things you read about the bible like come on pony up, soldier up, let’s go brother. Other times with the baby, like what do you We’re talking about Jesus, you feed them 15,000 people, feed them, they can’t do this, they can’t live this way, they cannot accomplish this on their own strength. They’re completely insufficient for the test And then the task in the verse 15, they did what he said, they had them all sit down and he took the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he blessed and he broke them and he kept giving them to the disciples to set before the crowd. So some jewish proactive mom packed her son of lunch, five loaves, you’re thinking loaves of bread, No, five loads of little biscuits, five little loafs, little small biscuits for her son and two small fish. It’s a kid’s meal and which disciple took that kid’s meal, I don’t know which disciples stole my money is on peter, uh you can check the Vegas odds later, but right now that someone took a kid’s lunch and they’re breaking that lunch up among 15,000 people, she just takes the bread, he blesses it and he breaks it and he breaks it and he breaks it and he breaks and he breaks it and they spread it out until people are absolutely stuffed with fish and bread. And obviously it was a good cook because people in verse 178 until they were satisfied they were stuffed. The actual words from actual language say they’re eating til I couldn’t eat anymore. And Jesus, one scholar wrote Jesus creating fish that I’ve never swam in the sea and he created bread that have never grown in the Earth. This is a God provision moment, Jehovah, Jehovah, the God who provides this is a massive miracle that 15,000 people are watching. He blesses it. He breaks it over and over again. This is a real historical event. This meeting has profound meaning in our life. In the year 2021, jesus stops, bows his head, praise a blessing. Everyone says amen. And then they eat. After hours of captivating sermons and he starts to play off of, you know, your hungry crowd, you should be hungry for the word of God. You know, you know, bread won’t satisfy forever, but I’ll satisfy forever. After hours of sermons on this, he illustrated it with a dinner, He stopped prayed and blessed the food. 5000 men said Amen and they ate and they were stuffed just a wild scene. So if you think of the author luke, he’s introducing to us the reader, he’s introducing us to jesus, in his nature. He talks about Jesus Lord, his power and authority over nature, The natural war, the world, how the wind and the waves obey him. Then we go on to jesus Lord over the supernatural, even the demons have to obey him. Goes into jesus Lord of our life, how the chronically sick woman who had 12 years of bleeding had had the illness had to obey her and jesus Lord over even death about this little girl who was healed who had died and he was healed. And now he’s showing his Lord of the Creation where he creates instant bread instead of bread and instant fish just like that. If Christ couldn’t meet 15,000 people’s needs, how could he meet the needs of all of mankind? And all of mankind needs more than just a lunch. All of mankind needs saving. This is the picture we see as christians on calvary and the cross where jesus died. And so if you look over there, you can see across and the idea is that we have communion weekly. To remind us of what transpired on the cross. And she said, my body was broken on across for you. My blood was spent and spilled out on a cross for you. You should have been on the cross, Your back should have been shredded your bowels, shut your brows should have been pierced your side, should have been pierced. You should have bled out on the cross. You deserve the cross. I deserve the punishment on the cross. The punishment. The wrath of God should have been poured out on you and on me on that cross. But instead Jesus was our substitute. He took our place on that cross because we could not pay that cross. We could not pay that price will be destroyed forever because you just loved us and he wants to be with us. He took the wrath. The punishment you deserve on that cross to take your place. His bread body was broken for you. Like we break the bread each week. His blood was spilt for you, like, like it was built for you. So you may be saved by the washing of his blood. We’re told to remind ourselves of this in communion Weekly as christians, jesus is the bread of the kingdom of God. Jesus, blood fills the cup of the Kingdom of God. We have access to God through the body and the blood of jesus christ. So what’s the end result verse 17. Everyone ate and was filled stuffed is the word you you will find if you dig into that word filled. They picked up 12 baskets of leftover pieces. Jesus made enough for leftovers. That’s what I’m always trying to do at our house. So I’m cooking. Let’s cook a lot. Right, Right, men, let’s cook a lot. The grand point of all this is that the utter sufficiency of christ is all that we need for all of life, jesus is worth it, jesus deeply satisfying. There’s their sanctification found in the cross, but there’s also satisfy satisfy cation satisfaction found in jesus. So what do we do with this story as a young man? I heard a story about the bema seat of christ was a dramatic narrative reading of a person’s life and it changed my life. There was this, there’s this guy who was just fiction, but it talked about this guy who died and who stood before God’s judgment on the BBC, where you give an account very thought word indeed. And then God rewards you for what you’ve done in your life. And this person’s life was played out, day, month year chapter of this man’s life was played out over and over again. Or he didn’t trust God in his career. He didn’t find satisfaction in God in his career. He found satisfaction in something else. He didn’t. He pursued his hobbies, he pursued leisure, he pursued relationships, he went after anything and everything else, but jesus and the and the store was so captivating because at the end of the story, Jesus was standing in front of God and he’s like, don’t you get it only I’m gonna satisfy. Only I’m going to meet those needs in your life. You’re going and pursuing this con bread of your career. This con bread of your leisure, Your hobbies, your relationships, your vices, you’re pursuing all sorts of things to find satisfaction, but only I satisfy and just wiped away the man’s tears and forgave him and moved on with the man’s life. But it was a wasted life. There was the saddest part of the whole thing was a wasted life. And then the man will go from a dream. So it wasn’t as depressing, but at the moment, you’re like, this man wasted his entire life pursuing things that never satisfied. He’s running down a path, he’s pretending he’s gonna give him satisfied satisfaction. But really it’s just he’s running on a treadmill, he’s getting nowhere and he’s having a ton of energy and effort going out to get somewhere and get satisfaction. But only God meets those needs if you’re lonely, think right now, God made me, God made me knows me. He knows my really relational needs in my life. He knows what I need to give when I needed to get, he knows me better than anyone else. So what am I gonna get satisfaction instagram? You realize what a con knock off that is of real relationships versus pretend relationships versus real relationships. God made you, and no one knows you and you’re gonna find satisfaction meaning and worth and photos in 15 2nd videos of people you kind of know from high school, I mean, are you serious? What a what a what a farce. Don’t eat the Conrad and that. Don’t eat the con bread. There’s real lasting bread relationships start in jesus, found in a healthy church, healthy christian community don’t go after that. That con ministry, it’s rarely convenient. This teaches us something only to satisfy ice. And ministry is rarely convenient. Ministry, this is a sacrifice, it costs you something. We talk about your time, your talent, your treasure, being generous to God and ministry, we need to be generous in our time, our talent and our treasure. I found this little gem in my studies this week preparing this message from some commentary off there, I forgot to write down which one, someone else wrote this, that says measure of the effect of your ministry is found in the measure of your sacrifice. The cross is the ultimate standard for our sacrifice. See, Jesus modeled ministry to his disciples in every way they needed it to be modeled and she’s also models ministry for us, his disciples today. Don’t miss it, don’t be, don’t don’t miss jesus. Think of the consumer crowd that came for the show that came for the drama that came for the healing that came because of the hype. They came for all of the wrong reasons to watch use his ministry play out, they came for the free handout, they came for the free bread and they walked away unchanged, Not getting the real satisfaction of Jesus because the disciples and Jesus didn’t go from 1240. Some people to 5000 more people, the ministry of jesus did not blow up after this big event that they had a lot of people, Miss jesus, they were consumers. Consumer christians, you’ve heard that phrase before, right? They were consumers, they consumed Christianity like a spectator sport, they were consuming, they came to get something out of it and they missed it all. They never saw christ the way he really was. They wanted to see the demons cast out the healing. There may be looking for a new political leader, some new government official leader, but they missed the biggest thing they missed jesus and so they miss satisfaction for their souls. They missed the sanctification they need of their life, they missed the salvation that is found in no one else and they walked away unsatisfied and unchanged because they missed, Jesus christ you too can be so close and yet so far away from God, you too can spend your life pursuing the christian life and yet MS jesus at the end of your life, she has said in Matthew chapter seven at the end of his sermon on the mount, he said go he said depart from me evil and wicked servant, I never knew you. If you back it up a little bit, these people did X, Y and Z in the name of God, they did amazing things for God, but at the end of their life, they stand in front of God, he says, I never knew you depart from me, it’s an intimate relationship with jesus christ that satisfies your soul. Nothing in this world will satisfy your life, but jesus christ as we close. Just the one thing the christian walk is defined by sacrifice, suffering and submission to jesus christ. Our life should be known by what were sacrificed suffered, submit to christ. Because of our relationship we have of christ. We desire to do that because of our relationship with christ. Let’s pray God, thank you for today, thank you for luke and his heart as he wrote this letter to us that we might know christ better, we might know a crucified christ, we might know the finished work of christ in our lives and we might become more like christ from reading about the life of christ. Just bless our time here as we shift to a communion, help us to think and do business with you, jesus name. We pray amen.
