Campus Fellowship Gears up for Fall & Beyond

When Zane and Faith Sherrer were hired as the new Campus Fellowship directors, they expected to be able to lead a college ministry without restrictions and guidelines to follow, the ones that have become so common during a global pandemic. Covid-19 changed everything for all us, including how two new college directors would approach their new position and upcoming school year. The vision never changed, though. With the fall semester underway, Campus Fellowship still hopes to reach many students so…

On Race, Riots, and Reconciliation

“There is a direct relationship between a person’s grasp and experience of God’s grace and his or her heart for justice.” Tim Keller, Generous Justice During the past week, protests and riots broke out in Minneapolis and across the country, including our city of Lincoln. They came as a response to the death of George Floyd, who died after a police officer pressed his knee into Floyd’s neck, even as he pleaded that he could not breathe. This is just…

Our first service begins at 9 am, and our second service starts at 10:30 am every Sunday. Our production team will continue to produce live streams and videos of our services. Meeting a Need during COVID-19

When COVID-19 began to spread rapidly in the U.S., health professionals and first responders would soon encounter a shortage of face masks nationwide, including here in Lincoln. Noelle Petersen knew she could help. Back in March, Noelle joined a group on Facebook, the LNK Community COVID Crafters, to sew homemade masks for Bryan Hospital, the first major medical facility in Lincoln to request homemade masks. She received five free mask patterns and began pattern testing for her husband, Jordan, who…

Online Now: Church

Online Church. Virtual Church. Livestream Church. Whichever words you want to use, the global pandemic COVID-19 has forced us to cancel our regular weekly Sunday service, ministries, and Community Group meetings until May, at least meeting in person. But it’s in times like these that the Church continues to be that, a Church. We may not gather in groups, but we still are the Church. Now more than ever, our community needs us to be the salt and light during…

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Statement

LIVESTREAM 10AM SUNDAY MORNING Dear, Church. The spread the Coronavirus (COVID-19) has caused fear and anxiety, even among believers. Scripture is clear that God has given us a spirit of love, not fear, and that He, ultimately, is in control, trustworthy, and good. May we experience peace in the midst of these circumstances as we dwell on the truth of God and His sovereignty. This does not mean we should be careless or reactionary, but rather be aware and work…

Beyond the Brand

From the initial teaser of the logo on January 5th, to the official unveiling of our new church name on January 12th, to sporting new t-shirts and hats, it’s been quite the month, hasn’t it? It is an exciting time for our church, and we can give all the praise to God for building our church over the years by bringing faithful men and women who love and worship God in all they do. Sower Church is now in a…

A New Era Begins

In the fall of 2012, a small and struggling church in Lincoln, Nebraska came to the pastors at Candlewood-Omaha requesting help. If this small church didn’t receive help, they feared they would have to close their doors. They wondered if Candlewood-Omaha would be interested in allowing them to merge with their church. The two pastors at Candlewood prayed about this request. Was this what the Lord had for Candlewood? Planting churches was always a desire of the church, but a replant had…

Christmas 2019

It is indeed the most wonderful time of the year. We’ve been celebrating Christmas all month long. We’ve decorated with Christmas trees, and we have been singing Christmas carols during worship. Our Children’s Ministry also sang their little hearts out about Jesus’ birth in their yearly Christmas program. To continue to grow our Generosity Culture, especially in a season of giving, our Community Groups gave back to our community by buying gifts for families from a nearby elementary school. Thank…

Fall Happenings

By the chill in the air, it sure does not feel like fall anymore, but we sure can praise God for all He has done in our church this fall. Here’s some highlights: By the chill in the air, it sure does not feel like fall anymore, but we sure can praise God for all He has done in our church this fall. Here’s some highlights: Baptisms Nikki, Joshua, Renys, and Felicity chose to get baptized in front of our…

Restore Campaign: Sunday School Rooms

It was your generosity that allowed for a much-needed update to our Sunday school rooms. Back in April, we announced the launch of our Restore Campaign, a one-year financial commitment to remodel our church to help facilitate our growing attendance and our increased ministry opportunities for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Over the summer, work began upstairs. Y’all came and did the demo work like you were Chip & Joanna Gaines. A work crew then installed new floors upstairs and painted so we could…

YP Retreat 2019

Dear Young Professionals (aka YPs), With so much of our lives filled with events and the next thing to attend, on top of our 40-hour work week, the YP Retreat is a time to get away for a weekend to be encouraged, challenged, and to learn. The theme: Worship. We’ll hear from Shane Unger for a bit. We’ll also hear from each other, too. What does it mean to worship? How do you worship? What does it mean to behold God in…

Men’s Night Begins

It begins, just like it did for the women: the men prepare for a monthly meeting of their own. Every third Friday of the month, from September to May, Men’s Night will be held at Sower Church. The Vision for Men’s Night Men’s Night is a time for men to be encouraged, inspired, and connected: to be encouraged by other men, to be inspired to live according to God’s calling, and to be connected with others who are pressing on…

Ladies Night Begins

It begins all over again. Every month, starting this September until May, on the second Friday of the month, Ladies Night takes place at Sower Church. So, what is Ladies Night all about? Well, let us tell you.  “Our goal of Ladies Night is that we’d grow together relationally and spiritually, that new friendships form and familiar ones become stronger, that we’d grow spiritually by hearing truth from scripture, and that our knowledge and love for our Savior would grow…

Restore Campaign: An Update

Your generosity was a game-changer. Back in April, we announced the launch of our Restore Campaign, a one-year financial commitment to remodel our church to help facilitate our growing attendance and our increased ministry opportunities. But mainly,  we hope to play a vital role to restore our city for the Gospel of Jesus Christ, increasing our community involvement and neighborhood impact. You all were asked to pray about how God would want you to be part of advancing the Gospel…

2019 Youth Soccer Camp

It’s back! For the fourth summer, our church will hold its annual youth soccer camp that serves the Lincoln community by offering free soccer lessons for ages 3-13. The camp will be held every Saturday in June starting June 8th at 10 am at Peter Pan Park. Activities involve warm-ups, soccer drills and lessons, and soccer matches within each group. Cool! Tell me More! Kids will be placed in a team based on their age group so that each age…

The Rock is Now Campus Fellowship

You might have heard it about it or had someone remind you that The Rock, our college ministry group, is now known as Campus Fellowship. Why the change? For years, college ministry groups within our association of churches have operated independently. But what if…all college ministry groups united under one name, with the same vision for Jesus, for His church, for campuses, for culture, for each other? And so, the name Campus Fellowship was adopted for all campus ministries –…

Onward into 2019

In late 2012, a merge brought the Lincoln church and the Omaha church together. It was a merger that brought about many changes, including 35 individuals moving to Lincoln from Omaha, restarting the college group on the UNL campus, sustaining the legacy of international ministry, and providing a foundation which our healthy and growing church now stands. Looking back as we enter another year, we are so grateful for all that God has done in our history. Each year, our…
